Curate This

Designing a new model for local arts writing

Curate This is a local arts website with a twist. Its founders describe it best:

Philadelphia is the fifth largest city in the US, boasts a competitive concentration of arts institutions, and is home to a vibrant underground art scene—yet, somehow, we continually fail to show up on the international arts radar. Curate This aims to solve that problem by providing a collaborative platform for artists to define and drive the conversation about the arts in Philadelphia. Every week a different artist/art professional curates content based on prompts provided by the editors. The curator answers one prompt themselves and hands off two more prompts to artist friends.

I worked with the fantastic Curate This team to create:

  • A dynamic identity system that allows each week's curator to literally curate "this" – that is, submit a new treatment of the word "this" to be added to a rotating set of logos on the site. You can see some of the results below.
  • A clean, modern, easy-to-update site with a few unexpected details
  • A guerilla sticker campaign for the site's launch

WHAT I DID:

  • Web design
  • Logo design
  • Launch collateral

WITH HELP FROM:

  • Chester Cunanan, primary web development
  • ProfProjects, content migration
